"slipperysallylikespenguins" (slipperysally)

I spotted this engine and transmission on a beach in northern WA last week and am wondering what it is. More pics after the jump.
99% certain it is a 25" Chrysler family flathead six block.
What I know: Inline 6, intake/ exhaust is on passenger side (rules out every American inline 6 after the 50s I believe), and has “25" stamped on the side.

Although I can’t imagine what kind of storm it would take to drag a hulk of iron up there, it’s probably a marine engine.

looks like it’s got an automotive transmission attached to it... I’ll throw out a guess - Ford commercial straight 6. Love the pic of the eagle getting a fish and dude not.

That eagle pic is great. I love the dichotomy between the bird succeeding and the guy failing.

Thats definitely a possibility. That fish was one that guy already caught and laid on the beach. Eagle got an easy meal that day.

Sounds exotic, probably out of my budget then.

That would’ve been a helluva storm. As Wafflesnfalafel pointed out the transmission appears automotive.

It was actually the guys fish. He had it laying on the beach and the Eagle just swooped down and snagged it.

Hah, that’s freaking great. I’m sure the guy was either super disappointed or super impressed.

Hmm. It seemed so short I figured marine for sure. Then again it’s condition is not all that telling...

After he noticed what was happening he shook his hand at the Eagle and shouted “damn you.” It was a nearly perfect moment.

I actually know nothing about marine applications, I’m just assuming

I’ve seen a couple but not gotten up close with the transmissions. But they are much shorter than automotive ones.

I think the intake is on the wrong side for that.

That is very close. The hole on side of the block near the front matches as well as the motor mount. So does the intake/ exhaust. Its still missing the casting number and blockoff plate on the side that Is on the one I found. Also smooth sides vs ribbed sides. But I do believe that has to be in the same family of engines.

yeah, its a tough one to pin down..... the one in your pictures has that timing cover that slants towards the intake......
